Holiday Reflections...

Recently on social media, I shared a very personal experience; and it wasn't the typical type of post you'd expect to see. My post detailed a time that I had an anxiety/panic attack. This wasn’t a regular thing for me because I don’t usually share these types of scenarios.

If you view my social media account, you will see a happy family. But we all know that’s not how we wake up every single day. In a marriage you will have disagreements, you will argue, but of course, that’s not always for the public’s consumption. However, when I need my wife and she needs me we are without a doubt there for one another. Even if just to listen to each other vent.

When I had this experience earlier in the year, it was one of the most terrifying things that ever happened to me. I’m grateful to have people in my life that have a strong faith, and I'm also thankful that I know God. Mental health is a growing topic of discussion, and it's an essential part of our everyday health.

People deal with mental health issues, some are severe, and some problems can be as simple as a stressful day. Either way, it’s essential to deal with it by talking to someone or just getting peace of mind. I don’t currently have a therapist, but I do plan on looking into that soon.

For now, I pray. I pray as much as possible.

When I feel overwhelmed, I pray.

When I feel grateful, I pray.

When I feel like I didn’t do enough, I pray.

Honestly, this is the first year of my life that I prayed every day. At the beginning of the year I fasted for 21 days with the sole purpose of building my relationship with God. Through this time I learned that God is closer than you think. It’s easier to hear him when you speak to him every day. He’ll show you things!  I bought a book that provides me daily devotionals which also helps a lot. Reading and praying have been my go to. I plan on diving into the Word more and getting more familiar with my Bible.

I am confident that the answers to any questions can be found there. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have people around you that you can go to and talk to. With all that goes on in the world sometimes, we just need a listening ear to get off some of this weight.

“Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transferred by the renewing of your mind so that you may prove what the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God” Romans 12:2

This scripture has stuck with me all year. I wear a bracelet with this scripture to remind me every day. If I can be honest, it’s one I struggle with. Not being conformed to the patterns of this world. It’s a long journey as Christians, but along the way, we should be pulling up our brothers and sisters and loving on them whether we share the same beliefs or not.

We can all agree that every day, every week, every month, or every year won’t always go how we want it to go but if we stand grounded in our Faith, I believe that we can get through the storms. I know that we'll move forward through each season and be stronger on the other side.

During this season, we will be surrounded by loved ones and bliss.  It's a great time to dwell on what you have and where you came from.
